The Nissan Kicks (P15) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Nissan since 2016.

The car was showcased across Brazil during summer 2016 to promote the 2016 Summer Olympics, of which Nissan was a lead sponsor.

The car was first shown as a concept in 2014.

Exterior elements include Nissan's V-motion grille, 'boomerang' head lamps and tail lamps and a floating roof with a "wrap-around visor" look. Inside is a sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel and touchscreen infotainment system.

Base variants are equipped with manual air conditioning, but higher spec versions come with a climate control system. On higher grade models, the infotainment system comes with a full color screen, with audio, satellite navigation and full smartphone integration on offer, as well as access to Facebook, Google Search, and Twitter.

The Kicks is the second Nissan product to receive the Bose Personal Space Audio System, which first made its debut in the Nissan Micra. The system includes eight premium drivers (speakers) placed throughout the vehicle, including two ultra-near-field drivers (speakers) in the front headrests. The system can be adjusted using onscreen menus on the touch screen to disperse "focused" sound to the driver and his or her front passenger, or at a wider angle for all passengers in the vehicle. When in "focused" mode, the listening experience simulates listening to music through a pair of high-quality headphones. In addition, more efficient materials were used to construct the drivers (speakers) used in the system, which are lighter and more efficient than a conventional driver (speaker), without compromising the exceptional audio quality that Bose is known for.

While most markets will receive Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive models, the U.S.-market 2018 Nissan Kicks will only be available with Front Wheel Drive (FWD). Buyers wanting All Wheel Drive (AWD) must upgrade to the Nissan Rogue Sport (or Nissan Qashqai, in other markets).

Engine

Most 2018 Nissan Kicks models will be powered by Nissan's HR16DE 1.6L Inline Four-Cylinder (I4) gasoline engine shared with the Nissan Versa. In the Kicks, it produces 125 Horsepower (HP) and 115 Lb. Ft./ 155 Nm of Torque. Nissan rates this engine to receive an EPA fuel economy rating of 31 miles per gallon (MPG) city, and 36 miles per gallon (MPG) highway.

In China, the Nissan Kicks will be powered by Nissan's HR15 1.5L Inline Four-Cylinder (I4) gasoline engine.

Transmission

The 2018 Nissan Kicks will be available with either a five-speed manual transmission, or Nissan's X-Tronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). In the United States, the all-new Kicks will only offer the CVT option.

Safety

The 2018 Nissan Kicks offers many standard and optional safety features, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), which applies the brakes to attempt to avoid a rear-end collision (or lessen the force of a rear-end collision, if one is unavoidable), if the driver does not apply the brakes manually, Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS), which warns the driver to manually apply the brakes in order to avoid a rear-end collision, and Blind Spot Warning System (BLIS), which detects when a vehicle in another lane is in the driver's blind spot, and sounds a warning chime and flashes a warning in either of the side mirrors.

As of 2018, the Nissan Kicks has NOT been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Production

Brazil

To cater to initial demand in Brazil, the 2018 Kicks is produced at Nissan's benchmark plant in Aguascalientes City, Mexico. Full-scale production began at the facility in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, from the first beginning of 2017.

Other Markets

In addition to Nissan's Brazilian plant, the Kicks will be produced for international markets at three different assembly plants in Aquascalientes, Mexico, Guangzhou, China, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Markets

Sales began in Brazil on August 5, by the end of the year it was introduced into other Latin American markets, and will eventually be sold in more than 80 countries.

The possibility of selling that in Russia and Turkey is probably not ruled out.

North America

The Kicks replaces the Nissan Juke in the North American market.

The Nissan Kicks went on sale in Canada in May of 2018, and U.S. sales began shortly thereafter in June of 2018.

Asia

The Nissan Kicks is currently being sold in some Asian countries: Caucasus, Middle East (except Israel), China and Southeast Asia.

Europe

It is highly unlikely that the Nissan Kicks will ever be sold in Europe, though that the second-generation Nissan Juke will be in pipeline.
